Most people don't understand what Earmarks are.

They are NOT additional spending.

They are saying where some of the money from the bill should pay for.

so if the bill says it is going to give the Transportation Department $1 Billion and a congressman earmarks $1 Million for a bridge. The Transportation department STILL gets $1 Billion, they just now have to spend $1 Million on that bridge and they can spend the other $999 Million any way they want.

An notion that earmarks are added to bills as additional expenditures is WRONG.......

What Ron Paul does: his office gets a request for money, his office then turns it in to be earmarks on the appropriate bill. Then when the excessive spending bill comes up to a vote, Ron Paul votes against it.

In other words, "I might as well glom onto all the taxpayer money I can, since everyone else is gonna do it, with or without me.'
